Groundsure delivers highly accurate property reports, with data-driven insights. We do this by using the best data and consultant expertise.

National Geographical Database explained:
The OS NGD is a single store of all Ordnance Survey’s authoritative data for Great Britain, and is Britain’s most advanced mapping data. They maintain the National Map, with over 600 million features of Britain’s landscapes that enables joined-up insights. OS NGD delivers richer data that Groundsure is able to utilise for better analysis and reporting – ultimately, it provides complete per-building accuracy.
Data that works smartly:
The National Geographic Database generates data that maps the building outline and the site outline/boundary. Not only this, it provides information on the building/structure type, the street of the property, the presence of basements plus hundreds of other property attributes. At Groundsure, we’ve been using NGD as a general application since October 2024 and for coal mining reports since June 2025. As a result, our reports identify any mappable hazards that could pose a risk to the property.
Key benefits of using OS NGD:
- NGD maps both buildings and structures within a site, alongside the site outline/boundary itself
- Provides clearer mapping data – whereby any hazards can be referenced against the building outline, rather than the site boundary alone
- NGD presents more reliable information; it helps to ensure the risks flagged are relevant to the building on-site, plus the broader site boundary too
- Use of NGD enables us to tailor the report – with recommendations based on the property’s characteristics.
Dominic Tubb, Product Director states: “The remote assessment of property is what we do, and we are judged and valued based on the answers that we give and the problems that we solve upfront. A constant aspect and focus of our product strategy is to improve the precision and accuracy. We’ll continue to leverage OS NGD and other great data out there – to give greater upfront clarity and improved, tailored outcomes for our customers and their clients.”
Benefits to legal professionals:
- Clients receive a smoother experience and upfront clarity in reports
- Risk assessments are undertaken on a per-building basis – giving complete accuracy for your client’s needs
- NGD is utilised within our Avista, Homebuyers and CON29M reports. Additionally, this is being added to our Screening, Review, Floodview and Manual Flood Assessment.
- NGD reporting enables precision, and filters out any irrelevant information.
Specific ways in which Groundsure are using NGD:
- To provide refined, property specific recommendations for contaminated land, flood risk and radon. Instead of providing lengthy lists of options, these are tailored based on specific property attributes/features
- In our coal mining assessments – with the ability to specifically provide a mine entry interpretive report upfront within our CON29M/Avista/GeoRisk + products, saves clients significant time and money
- Within our flood risk assessments for commercial properties, and in our follow on residential flood re-assessment report. This re-assessment report assesses risks to built structures, versus land, and provides flood risk assessment on built assets within the site.
Groundsure continues to strengthen its working partnership with the Ordnance Survey and use the best data and consultant expertise in the present and future – to add real value to our clients. James Morice-Atkinson at Ordnance Survey says: “It’s fantastic to see Groundsure utilising OS NGD to enhance the precision of their reports. By leveraging our data, they’re able to offer clients clearer, more accurate risk insights at property level – it’s exactly the type of insights that NGD was designed to enable.”
