How understanding the geology can help with your site investigation

How understanding the geology can help with your site investigation

On the 12th February, Business Development Manager Jenna Whitfield, will welcome guest speakers for a brand new and exclusive webinar.

In this session, geologists from the British Geological Survey (BGS) and data experts will discuss how its data can enhance site investigations and inform desktop site studies.

After a brief introduction, BGS will discuss its digital Geology map products, giving an overview of the available map scales and geological themes. They will then explain how BGS derives additional geological insight from these baseline maps to create derived geohazard susceptibility datasets. These derived datasets offer a nationally consistent geological assessment from BGS experts to supplement your site-specific interpretations.

Finally, there will be an opportunity for a Q&A with the BGS team.

Meet our guest speakers:

Rob Shaw
Geospatial Analyst

Rob is a Geospatial Analyst within the Information Products team at the British Geological Survey (BGS). His work focuses on the design and implementation of product generation workflows to create datasets which translate BGS’ geological scientific expertise into accessible outputs which support non-geoscientific stakeholders in answering geological questions. He has led and contributed to the development of digital datasets assessing baseline geology, geological properties and susceptibility to a wide range of natural geohazards.

Helen Burke
Survey Geologist and 3D Geological Modeller

Helen is a Survey Geologist and 3D Geological Modeler.  She has extensive experience of surveying the geology of Great Britain and has strong ability to translate these observations to produce geological maps. These maps have been incorporated into BGS’s Geology products over the last decade.  She is a product Champion for BGS’s geology and engineering products and regularly supports end users in understanding these products.

Lauren Hart
Business Development Manager

Lauren is the Business Development Manager for data products produced by the British Geological Survey.  Her primary focus is managing the strategic relationships with BGS’s data resellers. She also supports end users understand and utilise geohazard and climate change datasets. She works closely with the product teams to translate user requirements into features to enhance BGS’s data products.
