Groundsure Insight reports – now powered by the latest BGS 10k Geology Data
We’re pleased to announce that our Groundsure Insight reports now include the British Geological Survey’s (BGS) latest 1:10,000–1:25,000 geology data (Version 3.25) which provides our clients with highly detailed and the most up-to-date geological intelligence available for Great Britain. The updated dataset represents a major step forward in geological mapping.
Enhanced accuracy and usability
The latest dataset was released by the BGS on the 27th October 2025. The updated version merges the former 10k and 25k layers into a single, unified dataset, delivering enhanced accuracy, consistency, and usability. This also improves the national coverage rate – which now includes approximately 50% of the country, with additional coverage strengthened across urban centres and key transport routes.
The latest release incorporates new geological surveys and a completely refreshed attribution model that’s aligned with the BGS Geology 50k dataset, ensuring seamless integration and comparison across scales. The dataset features over 37 descriptive and geological fields, direct links to the BGS Lexicon of Named Rock Units, and refined information on lithology, stratigraphy, and geological age.

The integration of the latest version into our Insight reports, ensures Groundsure continues to provide industry-leading geological intelligence that supports confident, data-driven decisions, for geotechnical, environmental, and infrastructure projects.
Our commitment remains clear: by combining the best available geological data, with our advanced mapping and analytics, helps you fully understand the ground beneath every site.
