As Street Works across the UK continue to expand to support essential infrastructure and connectivity, the way materials and waste are classified and managed is changing.

The Street Works UK Material Classification Protocol, launched in October 2025 and approved by the Environment Agency, introduces a mandatory, risk-based approach to the classification, sampling and management of waste materials, replacing the previous RPS 298 and RPS 299 arrangements.
