Many farming processes have the potential to cause significant adverse environmental impacts. The farming sector was the number one industry causing pollution incidents in 2015 (1) and remains one of the top four causes according to the Environment Agency’s 2018-2019 Annual Report (2). The UK’s most common agricultural impacts are associated with the use of...
The Groundsure Story
Since our first day in 2001 Groundsure has grown to be a market leading environmental search company in the UK. Our flagship report, Avista, launched in 2017, and is the clearest and most comprehensive residential environmental risk report on the market. We lead the way in bringing clarity and relevance to environmental search in both the residential and commercial markets.
Groundsure is a location intelligence business. We provide high value, property-specific advice, and analysis of land use based on the best data in the market. We have organically grown from a small start-up to a truly innovative and market-leading business that supports and facilitates over half of the UK’s residential property transactions.
Groundsure began trading in response to the growing need and evolving criteria for detailed environmental search reports and information to support residential and commercial property transactions in the UK. The company began with the development of a single environmental search report. This formed the blueprint for our other products, both residential and commercial.
In 2003 we won major projects for TK Maxx which was swiftly followed in 2004 with a contract to supply environmental searches on behalf of the Environment Agency, and work with major clients including Thames Water. 2005 was a significant year for us, with Barclays Bank as the first major UK lender to adopt our Siteguard solution as part of their lending risk process.
We launched our Insight line in 2006 – providing detailed historical mapping and geo-environmental data specifically for environmental consultancies. This was a natural progression as we understood that for consultancies to be able to provide environmental opinion, they needed high quality and accurate data. The data we provide in our Insight line is the same data our in-house consultancy team use when interpreting our own reports.
In 2007 Groundsure was acquired by Emap Ltd and joined their umbrella of exciting and innovative insight brands. During 2008 and 2009 we won major projects for Barclays Capital, AIG, the Co-Operative Group, Eversheds, TM Group, UK Coal and X-Press Legal Services. In 2010 we launched the Enviro-All-In-One with the Coal Authority, the first residential search report to combine environmental, flood and coal risk.
We celebrated our 10th birthday in 2011, and 2012 saw Emap Ltd restructured to become Top Right Group, now ATI Global. Since 2012, Groundsure has grown exponentially with a fantastic product range to suit all residential and commercial property transactions. In 2013 we launched our successful .MAP platform offering data to architects, surveyors and environmental consultants.
In 2015 we undertook a full rebrand, with new names chosen to reflect the relevant markets we serve – Searches and Insights.
We continue to work to keep our reports and data the most up-to-date, accurate and relevant environmental search and insights on the market. In 2017 we launched Avista, our new flagship residential report and the clearest and most comprehensive risk report on the market. The user friendly, relevant, concise style we adopted for this report is informing our direction across the board.
In January 2020 we were delighted to announce the acquisition of Mining Searches UK, now trading as Groundsure Ltd, the country’s leading specialist in historical mining risk.
The combined businesses have a compelling and broad product set, with geo-environmental experts and geospatial data scientists providing advice and information products across the spectrum of geo-environmental risks.
Dan Montagnani, CEO at Groundsure said, "I am delighted with this acquisition. The team in Cornwall have been brilliant collaboration partners and our teams have been working together for two years now. The natural next step was to bring the businesses together to continue to build on the foundations already established, and to continue working towards delivering innovative new products to meet the demands of tomorrow’s property market."
Today we provide over 100 different products and have established key partnerships with the UK’s authoritative data providers including Ordnance Survey, BGS, and Ambiental. We pride ourselves on the quality service we offer our clients and are relied upon by professionals across all land, property and development industries.

Essentially, conveyancing is the legal process of buying and selling property. Not a supermarket meal deal, or a multi pack of tea towels – property. In the vast majority of cases, this is the largest financial transaction any of us will make in our lives. There’s the old adage of “you can have cheap, or...
