Contaminated land

For complex commercial or industrial sites with past or current contaminative activities, Groundsure’s specialist consultants provide tailored support.

Services include document reviews, site visits, and environmental audits to assess operations, compliance, and material risks, helping clients make informed lending or transaction decisions.

Planning and development support

Clients planning development may need contaminated land assessments to support planning applications or discharge conditions. These follow a phased approach (Phases 1–4), with each phase guiding the next to ensure the land is suitable for its intended use.

Our team provides contaminated land assessment services throughout the planning and development process, including the following stages:

1. Preliminary Risk Assessment (PRA)

A desktop study with a site walkover to identify potential contamination sources, pathways, and receptors, assessing long-term risks to residents, users or controlled waters.

2. Generic Quantitative Risk Assessment

If Phase 1 identifies risks, intrusive investigations may follow, including site sampling, lab testing, and risk assessment to confirm contamination and evaluate risks to health and end users.

3. Remediation Strategy/Method Statement

A detailed plan showing remediation or landscaping measures to address contamination and make the site suitable for its intended use according to regulations.

4. Remediation Verification Report

A final site inspection and report confirming remediation is complete, contamination risks are mitigated, and planning conditions can be discharged.
