Groundsure’s golf day raises £9,500 for Prostate Cancer UK

DateOct 6, 2016

On Friday 30th September 2016, a group of expert golfers took part in the golfing event of the year – the Ryder Cup. Meanwhile, 60 of our industry’s finest golfers took part in Groundsure’s inaugural golf tournament, held at Cottesmore Golf Club, raising awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

The weather was beautiful for most of the day, with the exception of the odd torrential shower here and there. Whilst there may have been a few soggy bottoms, it didn’t dampen the spirits as the team were on hand to distribute drinks, snacks and occasional pep talks on the beer buggy.

There were a number of competitions held throughout the day, congratulations to the winners:

Longest drive – Mike Oshea (PSG Mendip)

Nearest the pin – Gavin Gobby (Legal-Eye)

Beat the pro – Ron Jones (X-Press Legal Services)

Guess the number of tees - Sam Stanfield (PIE)

Tournament winners – X-Press Legal Services

And the most important award of the day, the best dressed award went to the Make Media team.

The evening began with a speech from Mike Bojczuk, an inspirational man who shared his story of living with prostate cancer, it was then followed by a speech from our guest of honour Peter Sowerby from Search Acumen.

After totting up the monies raised from team entries, the raffle, auction, and of course our fantastic sponsors, we are delighted to announce we raised over £9,500 for Prostate Cancer UK.

We are aiming to raise £10,000 for this fantastic cause, if anyone would like to still donate please visit our JustGiving page.

With 1 in 8 men affected by Prostate Cancer, it’s incredibly important to be aware of the symptoms, so please do take a moment to read this infographic.

Thanks again to everyone who took part and supported this fantastic cause, we’ll be hosting the event again next year so we’ll see you there!
