LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a technique using lasers to measure the distance between a survey aircraft and the ground.

It is one of the most powerful techniques for delivering highly accurate height data in a timely and cost-effective manner.


What would I need LiDAR data for?

LiDAR types available

Digital Terrain Model (DTM)

Height data captured with a high vertical accuracy of +/- 5 to 15cm, great for modelling tasks where accuracy is important and is available in a variety of resolutions (25cm to 2m depending on your area). DTM strips out the surface features for a ‘bare earth’ model.

Digital Surface Model (DSM)

This also includes ground surface including buildings and other ground features such as energy and utility infrastructure, roads, street furniture, railway tracks and vegetation.

Both data options are available to purchase as a zip pack and include:

  • Plain text (CSV) for use in any application that reads text files (e.g Revit)
  • ASCII file format for use in GIS applications
  • DWG files for use in CAD come in the following types:
  • 2D / 3D contours with height written on each contour line
  • Point cloud can be used to create your own surface in CAD

Resolutions

Available in 25cm, 50cm, 1m and 2m resolutions. The accuracy of the data is between +/-5cm to 15cm.

 

How do I order a report?

If you already have a Groundsure account you will need to log in using your user name and password and select the product(s) you require. If you do not have a Groundsure account, one must be set up, even for single pay as you go orders. This can be done using the create an account function.

How do I download a report?

All reports will be delivered by email to the designated email address. If necessary, you are also able to include an additional email address before placing your order. However, if the file is too big for email, a download link will be emailed to you. Alternatively, you can download any report from your Order History.

How do I cancel a report?

Cancelling an order ‘in progress’ can be dealt with via your Groundsure account. If the order you wish to cancel is already complete, please contact us and the team will advise you on our cancellation policy.
